Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin is one of the most famous Russian landscape painters of the 19th century. His works capture the unique richness of detail of nature in all its facets. From 1852 to 1856 he studied art at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Moscow. He later continued this study at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. The landscape painter received an imperial scholarship and was thus financially independent. After his studies he spent three years in Düsseldorf, Geneva, Zurich and Munich. This time was marked by many impressions and an intensive artistic work. Back in St. Petersburg, he joined forces with a group of artists and founded the Wanderer movement. His professional career reached its peak with membership in the Academy of Arts and work as a professor.
After returning to his native country, Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin's works were part of numerous exhibitions. He was also represented with his works at the world exhibitions.
