Nestled in the heart of Hamburg, on March 6, 1825, began the journey of Johann Georg Valentin Ruths, one of the most important landscape painters and lithographers of his time. Despite his merchant ancestry, Ruths found his true calling in the fine brushstrokes of art, shaped and honed by the school of renowned Hamburg painter and lithographer Carl Friedrich Beer. This initial spark eventually led him to Munich to attend the Polytechnic School and later the Academy before returning to his hometown of Hamburg in 1848. His artistic training received further refinement when he attended the Düsseldorf Academy of Art and perfected his landscape painting under the guidance of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. The inspirational influence of Schirmer was clearly evident in his work, and when Schirmer became director of the newly founded Karlsruhe Art School in 1854, Ruths also decided to leave Düsseldorf and set up his own studio in the city.
Ruths' art was distinguished by its vivid depiction of nature. His preference for Elbe areas, Italian and Swiss motifs was reflected in his painting. Whether depicting mountain or flat landscapes, the coastal scene or the village scene, Ruths' work was characterized by a strong emotional expressiveness, vivid drawing and energetic coloring. Along with Ascan Lutteroth, he was one of Hamburg's preeminent landscape painters of his time and was considered a respected member of the Hamburg Artists' Association of 1832. In our quest to bring the incomparable beauty of Ruths' work to a wider audience, we as a company have created the highest quality art prints of his work. By reproducing Ruths' exquisite landscape painting on our fine art prints, we strive to do justice to the spirit of his work and preserve his distinctive style for future generations.
Throughout his career, Ruths was a participant in major exhibitions at prestigious art galleries, including the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin, the Great Berlin Art Exhibitions, and the Glass Palace in Munich. Today, Ruths' works can be seen on our portal and are available as art prints. They offer the opportunity to experience the splendor of his art up close. Like a silent observer on the edge of life, the art prints of his works capture the eternal beauty of nature and draw the viewer's attention to its simple elegance and grace. In this way, the legacy of Valentin Ruths, the gifted son of Hamburg, continues to be kept alive and preserved for generations of art lovers.
