Romanticism  ·  Landscapes

Like the eye of a wanderer, the eye of the beholder stretches over green slopes to snow-covered protrusions. Powerful yet reassuring, the horizon is formed by the peaks of the mountains. Deep furrows run through the rocks and only hint at how unimaginable the power of nature must be. The painting "Remembrance of the Giant Mountains" thus becomes a symbol of the inner connection to our environment. The title alone creates an atmosphere of a bygone era and brings us back to our origins. Far from noise, stress and hectic, painting takes the viewer into a world full of hope and harmony.

The painting Processes main motifs of Romanticism. It was painted by Caspar David Friedrich and can be dated before 1835. Themes that strongly dominate the picture are longing, love and the uncanny. Typical of romance, it deals with wanderlust and created by fading colors a suction in the depth. One stops in front of the painting and lets itself be enchanted by its scenery. The title refers to the Giant Mountains, which is the highest mountain range in the Czech Republic. The example of nature is recorded and painterly linked with human emotions. It is an attempt to escape the current events. Like other artists of the Romantic period, the flight into the private and the undisturbed, as well as the turn to the past is processed and captures the zeitgeist of the world at that time.

"Memory of the Giant Mountains" was painted with oil on canvas. Despite a monotonous color palette, the painting manages to depict various details with just a few brushstrokes. Almost haptic are a rough and robust stones in the way and in the distance you lose sight of fading mountain peaks. These are partly covered with snow and partly covered by clouds. They contrast with the pointed and hard rock of the mountains. First falling and then rising, the slopes are in front of you and amaze you with countless green tones and many color gradations. Thus, the painting takes with you to press for a short time the pause button and escape from everyday life.
