Claude Monet's painting "Impression soleil levant" (French: "Impression, Sunrise") is alone in so far unique in art history, as that his chosen by Monet title "Impression" (= "impression"), which he likes all his works had been mockingly taken up by the art critic Louis Leroy to describe a group exhibition in 1874. Leroy, who thought that every wallpaper in the original state was more elaborate than the paintings he had seen at the exhibition, spoke dismissively of an "exhibition of the Impressionists" and thus unintentionally gave their name to the new and revolutionary style. But the painting is also a prime example of impressionism: clearly recognizable style, no image composition, focus on light conditions and color of appearance.
