The picture "A Way of Flying" was created by the Spanish painter and printmaker Francisco de Goya between 1815 and 1823. It is the 13th image of a satirical series that Francisco de Goya published towards the end of his life as Los proverbios (Proverbs). The series is an enigmatic album with a total of 22 prints. The difficult-to-explain scenes of the album are dark, dreamlike scenes that have been associated with Spanish proverbs and the Spanish carnival. The series was also referred to as "sueños" (dreams) or "los disparates" (nonsense). However, during Goya's lifetime, the series was not released because of the repressive political climate
