In 1913, probably the most famous Austrian artist in history, Gustav Klimt, painted a picture of Malcesine on his vacation. Malcesine is a small town in Italy, on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, about 120 km northwest of Venice and 40 km north of Verona. The idyllic landscapes, villages and buildings of Lake Garda inspired Klimt to many of his most beautiful paintings. The painting with the name "Malcesine on Lake Garda" comes from the same point of view as the painting "Church in Cassone", which was also painted by Gustav Klimt. His landscape paintings, with which Gustav Klimt decisively influenced Viennese Art Nouveau, are mostly square.
