The German Jewish painter Max Liebermann (1847-1935) created his painting "Two Riders on the Beach" in 1901. Liebermann was one of the most important representatives of German impressionism. The work shows two men in sportswear riding on a sandy beach along the sea surf. The sea merges with the sky to a gray-green color mixture. Although the two men are alone, the scenery looks restless and bleak. The sea is churned, the sky announces a storm. Although there is some hope (the color green), it is threatened by a much stronger darker power (the gray). A mischief "brews together". Man is also represented here as a plaything of the elements. He is subject to the vagaries of nature as well as his fate, which he can not influence both.
