The picture shows a waterfall that paradoxically looks like a hanging painting itself. This depiction creates a fascinating tension between reality and art.
The artist's intention was to create an extraordinary painting of a waterfall and to place this motif in an unconventional context.
The original work is an oil painting on a thick wooden panel. The painting process began with a white primer and an opaque layer of paint. Small areas were deliberately left blank to give the finished motif a special character and create the impression of light shining through the support. The upper layers of paint were then added with glazes and high-quality oil paint to work out the fine details. The artist dispensed with templates and developed the motif freely, although the trees appear as realistic as if they had been painted from a template or photograph.
This work of art can astonish the viewer, as the nail and the hanging rope may only be noticed at second glance. It is precisely this surprising effect that makes the painting a special landscape painting that is lively, creative and unexpected. It stands out from conventional landscape depictions and approaches the art movement of surrealism.
